The Will of John Prowse of Nether Slaughter

 was made on 16th April 1574

and proved on 3rd June 1575

 

 

 

John Prowse of Nether Slaughter in the parish of Bourton-on-the-Water in the County of Gloucester sick in body

 

Body to be buried in the church of Bourton-on-the-Water

 

To wife Eleanor all the goods that she brought unto me saving two po--es excepted plus fifty pounds to be paid within four years of death plus board with my son Silvester during her life or else three pounds of lawful money during her life to be paid by her election whether she will take and her chamber within the parlour and a coffer with lock and key which stowed within my chamber about

 

To Robert COLT (COLLET) my son-in-law ten pounds to be paid within 2 years of my decease

 

To William REDWARDE five pounds to be paid 2 years after my decease

 

To William PARTRIDGE five pounds to be paid at the like time

 

To Silvester my son the lease of my house that I do now inhabit and dwell in in Nether Slaughter

 

To Henry my son the lease of my house in Nether Slaughter called Demaries

 

To Silvester my son the lease of my water mill to his own use and if Eleanor my wife do interrupt or let my son of said mill that then her legacies shall be destitute and void I do constitute that my two sons shall occupy the two farms together for the space of three years till legacies be paid in full

 

All the rest of my goods I do give unto Silvester my son and Henry my son to be equally divided between them both
